I Saw Him Standing There

Last night I fulfilled a childhood dream.  I drove 120 miles to the Motor City to watch Sir Paul McCartney in Concert.

The man is 69 years-old and rocked for over three hours without a break. I always said I should go see him soon because he’s probably going to stop touring at any moment, given his age.  After watching him last night, I don’t think that’s the case.

Here’s the extensive list of songs he performed:

  • Hello, Goodbye
  • Junior’s Farm (Wings)
  • All my loving
  • Jet
  • Drive my car
  • Sing the Changes
  • Hitch Hike (from Marvin Gaye)
  • The Night Before
  • Let Me Roll It
  • Foxy Lady (Jimi Hendrix)
  • Paperback writer
  • The Long and Winding Road
  • Nineteen Hundred and Eigthy-Five (Wings)
  • Let ‘Em In
  • Maybe I’m Amazed
  • I’ve Just Seen a Face
  • I Will
  • Blackbird
  • Here Today (John’s Eulogy)
  • Dance Tonight
  • Mrs. Vandebilt
  • Eleanor Rigby
  • Something
  • Band on the Run
  • Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
  • Back in the USSR
  • I’ve Got a Feeling
  • A Day in the Life/Give Peace a Chance
  • Let it Be
  • Live and Let Die
  • Hey Jude

Encore:

  • Lady Madonna
  • Day Tripper
  • Get Back

Encore 2:

  • Yesterday
  • Helper Skelter
  • Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End

The concert was absolutely fantastic, and Paul is a delight to watch and listen to.

I don’t think he does these concerts for the money.  I don’t think he goes through the pain of going on tours at this age because he necessarily enjoys plays the same old songs over and over.

I think he does it for us.

Thanks, Paul.
